Micro-teaching pt. 4
Hello!
Today I will write about another lesson conducted by me in 1st grade. It was a summary of the unit about transportation.
At the very beginning, we recalled all the vocabulary that appeared in this unit on flashcards, both pictures and words. Then we were drilling names, and after that, I draw a picture on the whiteboard divided between the ground, water, and air. Students were telling me the name of transportation and where does it move. It was quite fine and funny as I'm not the best at drawing but we all did our best! Then we had a time with creating riddles. Students were asking other students to guess what they are describing in the form of a question (Is it a car?). This we did in lockstep with volunteers who were ready for it.
After we did it students were ready to work with their handouts. Their task was to cut out pictures of transportation and paste them into the right column. Then we summed up what goes where and there was a little bit of time for coloring in which I was walking around the classroom and asking students some questions connected with them (color, have they ever taken this kind of transportation?).
And then my favorite part of the lesson. I asked students how they imagine the future of transportation? Can they come up with an idea of some future mean of transport? They had some brilliants ideas so they made pictures and described them to other students in pairs. When we all were ready to move on I showed my pupils a movie from youtube on future transportation. They were fascinated! They wanted to keep watching even though the lesson was over and we had to clean up and get ready for another class.
I really hope my students enjoy my lessons, can't say that for sure but it seems they do. I am very surprised that such young kids have this much imagination, ideas, and knowledge that can be used in their learning.
I anticipated some problems with creating riddles, but to my surprise there were none! That's quite amazing for first graders!
Thanks for reading
XOXO
