My aims for the future

In this last entry, I want like to reflect on what I would like to achieve in the future while looking back on my past experience.

At some point, I have problems with implementing speaking into the lesson. I control everything around me, each sentence from my students is under strict supervision. This is why I've decided to conduct action research which gave me some answers on what I do wrong and how I should improve it. I already use this knowledge to teach my students speaking better and more freely. But there is always some space for improvement, so I will keep working hard to help my students become conscious users of the language.

Another thing that I am looking forward to is developing literacy. Till now my knowledge was quite limited, however now I am in the process of writing my thesis and this topic is so interesting! I would love to know how to introduce literacy into the foreign language classroom in a way that will be beneficial for my students.  For now, I've been only using global reading, but maybe I can do something more to teach better.

I would also like to teach pronunciation to show my students that they can achieve this comfortable intelligibility and speak freely and without shame. This is something I hadn't been taught in primary school, and in this period it's very important to show pupils how to articulate sounds, how are they created, what are some ways to practice them.  For this, I have to prepare myself theoretically and I have to fix my own pronunciation, because how am I supposed to teach something I am not able to do. With the subjects we had till now I know how to begin, and to begin in the best way is to start with yourself! So I need to follow these directions and work on it every day.

Now when I think about it, in teaching a foreign language everything is strictly connected. If I want to practice speaking, I need to work on the pronunciation. And this is strongly connected with literacy, as it is strictly connected with audial perception, recognizing sounds and fresh memory.

To teach young learners well, one should focus not only on the language itself. General development of students plays an important role in learning English because without it students will be not able to focus, analyze, create and imagine. Without the proper contextual knowledge, they will not understand the content of lessons and sound abstract to them.

I am ready to start the process of becoming a teacher. A good teacher. Wish me luck!

I love that you have very clear, specific goals which you want to achieve as well as the fact that you are already working on it! I think that the fact that you see a problematic area and want to improve shows that you are a fantastic, open-minded teacher who really wants to help her students. So wish you the best of luck! :).

The big summary of the first semester

This semester passed by really quickly. For 2 months straight I’ve been observing my mentor teacher in the classroom, but also I’ve conducted some micro-teaching. It was fun and challenging. Now it’s time to look back at it and reflect little more to summarize my new experiences. During the practicum time, I’ve been enjoying each minute in the classroom. CLIL tasks

Hello! Little late but here I am. Today I would like to write something about the tasks used in my CLIL unit. Except for some typical language activities such as drilling, playing games that support memorization we also did some stuff that would be more meaningful and picture things that I wanted to introduce better. The thing I'm the proudest of is an experiment! As my unit was connected with nature education and science I let myself use 2 experiments to introduce the topic. The first experiment was based on some physics. With a glass, plate, candle, and water we tried to prove that in our classroom there is an oxygen...and how much oxygen there is in one glass! It was super fun, especially with the usage of colors! Children shared them predictions, observed and later described the course of the experiment. Lots of language and lots of fun! Micro-teaching part 1.

Hello! It's been a long time, I know. But here I am, back and ready to tell you something about the micro-teaching that we've been obliged to conduct in our practicum school. My very first experience was conducting 10 minutes activity for a warm-up during the lesson about birthdays. It was quite fun but also very stressful. Even though I've been already teaching my own groups it was quite difficult for some reasons such as: being observed by the mentor teacher, university peer; the first try to use names of all the kids in the classroom;  new language level of students, as my own students are total beginners, while practicum kids are already sort of fluent.
